About This Site

The vast expanse of the Anatolia Plateau is the origin of Turkey, which has been the cradle of numerous civilizations and a witness of human life for over thousands of years. When I visited Turkey for the first time in September 1991, I was looking out the reddish-brown land of Anatolia from a bus window for hours. I never got tired of looking at the boundless rolling plains and the shadows of clouds cast on the ground. I was unable to shake off the feeling: "I've been here before." It was a strange "deja vu." I was born and raised in a small island nation in the Far East, 9,000 km away from Turkey. My hometown and Turkey don't have anything in common. Yet, the indescribable nostalgia that I felt at that time has driven me to visit Turkey numerous times.

This website is for all travellers who are fascinated by Turkey. I wrote about my travels, hoping you will be able to share my experiences. The site may not cover all the major destinations that you might be interested in, but it would be the greatest pleasure for me if you could feel the spirit of Anatolia.

In 1991, one US dollar was equivalent to only 3,000 Turkish Liras, but it is almost 1,500,000 Liras in 2004. Then, Turkey implmented denomination (six zeros have been dropped) at last and issued new banknotes as of January 1, 2005. One lira in the New Turkish Lira (YTL) is equivalent to 1,000,000 lira of old currency. Also, from January1, 2009, the word "yeni (new)" was removed and its official name became just "Lira" again. Not only the currency exchange rate, but also so much has changed at an amazingly fast speed for over these 19 years. My writings are based on the travel notes of that time and must be subjective. So, please understand that the things I wrote about may be more or less different from the current situations or the things that you see or feel.
